Sugar paste is massaged onto the skin by hand at a lukewarm temperature and then molded against the natural direction of the hair growth. With a flicking motion, the hair is gently removed in the natural direction of the hair growth.

-
Sugar contains pure and natural ingredients - made from sugar, lemon, and guar gum...it's so pure it's safe enough to eat! Wax - contains resins, bees wax and other chemicals, not to mention the potential of other clients skin and blood.
-
Sugar is more sanitary - hypoallergenic and noncomedogenic; sugar paste is applied with a gloved hand, and a fresh ball of sugar paste is used for each client, meaning no risk of cross contamination. Wax - easily spreads bacteria in the wax pot. A wood spatula is repeatedly dipped in the same wax pot that is used from client to client.
-
Sugaring is less painful - Sugar will not stick to live skin cells, only the dead ones. Skin cells are removed, so there is less risk of abrasions, tearing and generally less redness than waxing. Wax - adheres to live skin cells and when removed, it will pull the skin, increasing the risk of tearing and redness.
-
Sugar is not hot - sugar paste is lukewarm when it is applied, so there is no risk of burning the skin. Wax - resin waxes are heated to high temperatures to keep them fluid, so burning is a risk.
-
Better technique - sugar paste is applied against the natural direction of the hair growth, then removed in the direction of growth...resulting in less painful hair removal and less hair breakage. Wax - applied in the direction of hair growth and removed against the natural of hair growth. This frequently results in breakage of the hair at the follicle, which can lead to ingrown hairs and unsightly bumps.
-
Extract very short hairs - hair growth need only be 3/8" long to be removed BUT the longer the client can wait for their appointment, by not shaving before and after treatments, the longer the hair will stay gone. Basically more bang for buck. We suggest trimming hair before and between treatments with an electric trimmer instead of a straight razor
-
Sugar is gentle - sugaring is so gentle, it can be used to remove the vellus hair that grows on some women's faces - something that cannot be done with waxing.
-
Easy cleanup - sugar paste dissolves easily in water the there is no sticky residue left on your skin. Wax - requires the use of chemical solvents to remove.

- Can I sugar if I'm using Acutane?
Absolutely not. Acutane is an oral high-dosage of vitamin A, which affects the whole body and can cause severe drying and thinning of the skin. There is a high risk of permanent damage to the skin if you wax or sugar while on the treatment. Wait at least 6 months after discontinuation of Acutane before receiving a sugaring treatment.
- Can I sugar if I'm using Retin-A , Renova, or Differin?
Applied topically, these products cause an increased amount of shedding and can thin the skin significantly. It is not recommended that you sugar of wax the areas where these medications are applied. Wait at least 3 months after the discontinuation of these products before sugaring or waxing.
- This will be my first Brazilian. What can I expect? Will it hurt? Will I have some irritation or redness?
You're removing the hair by the root...it will probably sting a bit. If you keep a regular schedule, most clients say the pain decreases significantly. Irritation and redness are common responses due to a histamine reaction, which is caused by the removal of hair by the root. Your can apply Hydrocortisone and/or take Benadryl a couple of times a day to help decrease the redness if needed. Regular sugaring will desensitize your skin and cause less irritation. If there are no contradictions, you can take a couple of over-the-counter Ibuprophen 45 minutes before your appointment to help minimize the sensitivity and irritation.
- What exactly is a Brazilian?
A "Brazilian" (sometimes referred to as an "LA Bikini")is the sugaring of all pubic hair. For women, it includes the labia and anal region.
- What if I want to leave a little hair when I get my Brazilian?
At Unwanted Hair Solutions, we strive to give each client individual attention, so we'll be happy to work with you to create the look you desire.
- How often should I sugar?
Typically every 3-6 weeks. Sugaring allows us to remove hairs as short as 1/16 of an inch, although it is recommended that the hair be between 1/8-1/4 inch for best results.
- How sanitary is sugaring?
Very! There is NO RISK of cross contamination because we use only pure sugar paste with clean, gloved hands. It's so clean and pure...you can eat the sugar right out of the pot.
- I leave the waxing salon sticky or greasy. Will this happen if I sugar?
Sugar is water soluble, so just a little water will remove any sticky residue from your skin and clothing. There is no risk of damaging your clothes, and no solvents are ever used on the skin.
- Can I tan right before or after I sugar?
Please allow 24 hours prior to and after sugaring before you tan. If you have a sunburn, do not get sugared or waxed in that area, as your skin is more sensitive and could cause the skin to tear and scar.
- Can I workout or go the the gym?
Working out before your sugaring appointment is fine, but please rinse before coming in for your appointment. It is best to wait 12-24 hours after sugaring or waxing to work out, as your follicles are open. Sweat and dirt can add to skin irritation.
- Can I get a Brazilian or a bikini area sugar treatment if I'm on my period?
Yes. If you use a tampon, we can do Brazilians or the bikini area, but please be aware that some women experience more sensitivity during their treatment.

- Avoid touching your freely sugared area with dirty hands.
- Taking a hot shower right after sugaring may increase skin sensitivity.
- Avoid working out 12-24 hours after your service.
- Avoid sun tanning for at least 24 hours - skin will be more sensitive to UV rays.
- Wear sunscreen if going outside.
- Gently exfoliate 3-5 days a week to help prevent in-grown hairs and breakouts to keep your skin in good condition between sugaring services. Avoid loofas...they are difficult to dry and clean, and may spread bacteria. Your skin loves nylon gloves or cloths to exfoliate the skin.
- PLEASE do not use a razor or dipilatory creams between your appointments, as this will interfere with your goal to refine and diminish your hair growth.
- Use an electric trimmer instead of the razor. Keep the hair above skin level.
- Don't forget to moisturize your skin!

A "Brazilian" (sometimes referred to as an "LA Bikini") is the sugaring of all pubic hair. Although most Brazilians remove hair from the entire pubic region, some women prefer to leave a small patch just above the vaginal area. Many clients request a Brazilian because it gives a clean, close removal of hair and the freedom to wear the most revealing swimwear and lingerie.
Doctors say that although humans once needed protection against the elements, there's no real clinical need for pubic hair in this day and age - clothing certainly provides ample protection and warmth. Some even claim it's more hygienic to have the hair removed so it doesn't absorb sweat-causing odor.
